Rowing to Portugal
Poetry and Drawings
by
Betty Nadine Thomas
Rowing To Portugal is a journey of the trials, thrills and many adventures you will have along the way. Moving down the street can be a challenge but moving to another country is an experience of a life time. Leaving the United States was not a problem but "how fast can I leave presented their own set of issues. Jumping off a cliff into the unknown, beginning again, learning everything new is absolutely exhilarating. Row your boat to wherever you may land and feel the freedom of the winds.
Rowing to Portugal is Betty Nadine Thomas's seventh published book. She is now working on writing and illustrating her twelfth book. She was recently awarded in 2025, Author of the Year, in the category of Philosophy from International Impact Awards for her book Walking Two Worlds. In 2026 she received winner of Best Poetry Collection from Africa Laureate Awards for her book Peepers Peeping. In 2024 Betty retired from a career in Emergency Management where she was the Director of Emergency Disasters in her local area. She has traveled all over the United States working for the Red Cross being deployed in many emergency disasters. Working for VISTA in New Mexico, studying art and business in Arizona and building houses in Washington State are all part of her history. Her diversified life experiences and travels have allowed her to see and interact with humanity from a unique perspective. Finally after 55 years of working, Betty relocated to Portugal to work on her passion, writing books and illustrating them. Betty continues her love of swimming, boogie boarding and playing in the ocean whenever possible. Her primary goal in her work is to teach, open negative narrow minds and open hateful hearts into accepting All people for whom and what they are regardless of race, religion and or sexual orientation.
