Loving, Living and Forgiving
From Personal Story to Professional Insights
by
Ruth Badanes Reiner
In this unique fusion of memoir and case reports, psychologist Ruth Badanes Reiner integrates hard-earned lessons from her personal life with insights gained from decades of professional practice as an individual, couple and family therapist. Honest, authentic and straight from the heart, this remarkable book touches on issues around family of origin, relationship challenges, parenting, coping with tragedy and the fundamental commonalities that bind all of us together and make healing possible. With a conversational, engaging style, Ruth Reiner shows how everything that truly matters is based on the individual yearnings of our shared humanness. It highlights our unavoidable vulnerability, fallible nature, and, above all, our boundless capacity to heal. Although the subject matter is serious and impactful, her insights are often humbling and humorous. The core message of Loving, Living and Forgiving? That forgiving is a necessary part of loving and living, and the main goal--to heal oneself and others--can only be achieved by understanding ourselves, each other, and life itself.
“With emotional depth and clinical wisdom, the author invites us into the intimate space of therapeutic listening. She captures, with rare sensitivity, the fragile places where suffering and joy coexist. Her case reflections are detailed yet deeply humane, reminding us that transformation often begins not with grand interventions, but with presence. This is a moving and potentially transformative work — for clinicians and for anyone who has ever longed to be truly heard.” — Dity Brunn, Psy.D. Clinical Psychologist Adjunct Professor of Psychology Pepperdine University, Graduate School of Education and Psychology
