When the Moonbeam Comes to Call
by
Sandra Appleby
For children young and old, the long glorious days of summer are magical. In this lyrical swim through memories in the making, the days of playing in the water, card games at night and campfires on the beach, all lead to their favourite activity of all. What fun fills family time in the summer months? What are the moments of magic in a place shared with nature? What is possible when the moonbeam comes to call? Sandra Appleby’s lyrical text is beautifully interpreted by Madison Appleby’s dream state illustrations of the connections cousins cultivate sharing time and place at a summer lake.
Sandra Appleby creates works of fiction and non-fiction to delight, educate and connect readers of all ages to themselves, others and the environment. This text was inspired by the magic of summers spent as a child and with children in Ontario cottage country. She officially lives in Toronto, Ontario but is more often to be found on the trails and waterways of the Canadian Shield and beyond. Madison Appleby is a landscape architect, artist, and lover of nature. Outside her professional work of exploring storytelling through design, she has found opportunities to travel to many corners of the world. Over the years living and working overseas, her sense of home has taken on new meanings. In her illustrations she expresses the nostalgia and magic of her childhood cottage in Northern Ontario. A place that will always feel like “home”.
