The Great Darkness
by
Joan M. Miller
Fifteen-year-old Jessica Graves has been spending another summer at her aunt Esmeralda ’s farmhouse, but since Jessica’s most recent adventure in her aunt’s ancient, magical book, Esmeralda has not been well, muttering about great darkness. And when a strange, dark mass of clouds gathers over the farmhouse, Jessica knows that the darkness her aunt warned about has found them. Hoping to find a solution to the problem, Jessica returns to the Magical Realms only to find that there is a Great Darkness there as well … one that is relentlessly engulfing and destroying everything in its path. To save the Magical Realms, Jessica must take Emerald’s gemstone and travel to the Life-Source with two other youngsters who bear the magic gems belonging to the Spirit of the West and the Spirit of the South. Facing great dangers, the companions must also avoid the Great Darkness that is hunting them. And when they successfully reach the Life-Source, the greatest danger of all awaits them … the great Wizard Drakia. Can three youngsters hope to overcome the Great Darkness that is threatening to destroy the Magical Realms? The situation seems to be hopeless, but when friends join forces and work together, perhaps a miracle might just be possible…
Author Joan M. Miller has been writing stories ever since she was big enough to hold a pencil to a piece of paper, and that creative drive is something that she never outgrew. While her master’s degree in English Literature has certainly helped her to create and polish her work—it was her own children who inspired the creation and development of this series. When she retired, Joan revisited those books, expanding on the Jessica’s Quest series as well as writing a new series: The Chronicle of the Fire Spirit. Joan currently lives with her husband at Lake of the Woods, Ontario. When she isn’t busily creating new stories, she enjoys reading, quilting, gardening, working with stained glass, and spending quality time with family and friends.
