Reflections
Poems and stories from a lifetime of observation
by
John Giraudy
The book is a collection of poetry, verse and five short stories. It is a reflection on the author's observations of people, cultures, and commentary on the idosyncracies of humankind. Its content also draws attention to the disagreeable behaviour of our species towards each other, and sadly, the growing exploitation of our planet. On a more whimsical note, the book contains a light-hearted and satirizing look at life. While some of the content is thought-provoking, it is mostly relaxing and fun reading.
John E. Giraudy was born in Saint Lucia and emigrated to England in his mid-teens. Following completion of his secondary education in London in 1960, he enlisted in the Royal Air Force. After leaving the Service he studied economics at the University of Nottingham, England, followed by a post-graduate business degree at Cranfield Business School. John moved with his family to Toronto in 1981, to join de Havilland Canada in its marketing and sales group. He later joined Bombardier’s nascent Regional Aircraft programme. John retired in 2003 as President of Bombardier’s Regional Aircraft Division. Throughout his military service and business career John travelled extensively across the five continents, interacting with many people and cultures. It is these valuable life experiences that inform most of his writing. Following retirement, John and his wife, Karen—his motivation for curating this collection—relocated to Prince Edward County, Ontario, where they both currently reside.
