For forty years, poet Simone L. Hamlescher turned to her notebook—in her spare time, when she was frustrated, when she had no one else. She learned that every poem is a life experience. Growing up and growing old, love and grief, birth and death—a poem can illuminate our inner worlds and everyday lives. Simone L. Hamlescher is a retired accounting assistant. She always dreamed of being involved in the arts but was never able to pursue this passion until now. After writing poems in a notebook for forty years, Simone finally gets to cross off the single item on her bucket list: publish a book of poetry. Herding Cats in the Forbidden Kingdom: A Poetry Collection (1986–2026) is her first book and her legacy. When she’s not writing, Simone enjoys gardening, crafting, and playing the piano. She lives in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland with her family and two cats.
