The Farthest
by
Peter B. MacIntyre
In a distant solar system, a dying red dwarf star has locked its first planet in a constantly degrading orbit. Zetara Prime exists in eternal shadow by its home star forcing the technologically advanced Zetarans to live underground in the twilight zones to escape their planet’s inhospitable surface. When Sattek discovers an anomaly in one of his assigned observation sectors, the introspective researcher for the Zetaran Stellar Observatory is drawn into a cosmic mystery. The discovery of this anomaly sets him on a collision course with the past, present, and an uncertain future for his people. Amid a backdrop of political tensions, groundbreaking technology, and the looming reality of Zetara Prime’s continuing decline, Sattek must navigate the challenges of duty and personal ambition. As his team races to explain the anomaly, the question remains: Is this a new beginning for the Zetarans, or the harbinger of their end? The Farthest is a gripping tale of survival, discovery, and the unyielding spirit of exploration. Dive into a richly imagined world of advanced science, deep-space wonders, and the timeless search for answers in the vast unknown.
Peter B. MacIntyre brings over almost 4 decades of experience in the world of Information Technology to his writing, blending technical precision with a lifelong passion for science fiction. A devoted fan of the genre’s greats, from Asimov to classic television like Star Trek, Space: 1999, and The Star Lost, Peter’s influences span both the iconic and the unconventional. He also has an enduring appreciation for the wit and imagination of works such as The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Red Dwarf, and Resident Alien. This rich foundation in science fiction, combined with decades of problem-solving and storytelling in the tech world, has shaped his unique voice and inspired this, his first contribution to the genre. In addition to his fiction, Peter is a respected technical author and speaker. He is the author of PHP: The Good Parts and co-author of Programming PHP (4th Edition), WordPress Development in Depth, and Pro PHP Programming, among others. He has spoken at conferences around the world, including events in Canada, Italy, Poland, Germany, Australia, and the United States. In his spare time, he also enjoys playing basketball, watching rugby, and travelling. Peter lives in Prince Edward Island, Canada, with his wife, Dawn, with whom he shares four children and two grandchildren.
