When the first of three murder victims is discovered in the outskirts of their city, Detectives Baxter and Godbout quickly find themselves desperate for answers. As Canadian veterans of the Great War, they immediately recognize the telltale signs of chlorine gas poisoning on the victim’s flesh. But who would carry out such a war crime in peacetime? And where would they strike next? These two veterans are central to the tale, one blinded by German gas in 1915, one wounded by a German artillery shell two years later. Now, employed by the Winnipeg Police Service, the Blind and the Lame become the reader’s “leads” in this penetrating and disturbing investigation.

Robert J. Young is a retired History Professor at the University of Winnipeg. His scholarly books have appeared with Harvard, McGill-Queen's, Rutgers, Macmillan, Berghahn, Peter Lang, and the Winnipeg Free Press. His experiments in Historical Fiction include Another Spy for Paris (Signature Editions) and Murder in a Minor Key (At Bay Press). He is grateful for a long career at the University and, for that reason, will direct all royalties from Remembrance Day Murders to the University of Winnipeg Foundation.
